There's one product category where fabric choice is felt by the wearer within minutes — not after several washes, not after months of use.

Someone running in a jersey made from the wrong fabric will sweat more, feel overheated faster, and become uncomfortable long before they finish. Someone training in the right jersey barely notices the garment at all — because it doesn't get in the way.
This is where drifit fabric choice stops being purely about aesthetics. It's about product performance that's felt directly on the body.
What Drifit Actually Is — and Why the Name Gets Confusing

"Drifit" isn't technically a fabric type. Originally, Dri-FIT is a trademarked Nike technology — a moisture management system that pulls sweat away from skin to the outer fabric surface where it can evaporate faster.
But in the Indonesian textile market, "drifit" has become the generic term for moisture-wicking knit fabric — fabric with the ability to draw and distribute sweat so the body stays dry during physical activity.
What differentiates one drifit fabric from another isn't the name. It's the fiber composition and fabric construction — and that's what determines how effectively it performs in the field.
The Two Most Common Drifit Types in the Market
Drifit Polyester non Spandex

Polyester — the synthetic fiber that forms the base of the majority of sportswear globally, from community futsal jerseys to national team kits.
Its characteristics:
Lightweight — low fabric weight, doesn't restrict movement
Fast-drying — polyester doesn't absorb water; sweat is channeled directly to the outer surface
Color-fast — ideal for sublimation printing, producing sharp colors and fine detail
Dimensionally stable — doesn't stretch out or shrink after repeated washing
Drifit polyester is best suited for: team sports jerseys (futsal, basketball, volleyball, running), outdoor event uniforms, sportswear that requires full sublimation printing.
Its limitation: pure polyester isn't as flexible as fabric with spandex content, and for some people it can feel less comfortable directly against skin compared to natural fibers.
Drifit with Spandex Content

This variant combines polyester with spandex (elastane) — typically at 88–92% polyester and 8–12% spandex composition.
The addition of spandex produces:
Two-way stretch — fabric moves with the body, not against it
Recovery — returns to its original shape after being stretched
Better fit — suited for body-fitted or compression-style garments
Drifit with spandex is best suited for: gym and fitness wear, yoga wear, body-fitted running gear, premium sportswear targeting higher-end market segments.
Its limitation: higher price point than pure PE, and production is slightly more demanding since stretch fabric is more challenging to sew consistently.
Drifit Milano and Drifit Speedy — What's the Difference?
In the Indonesian fabric market, two names that frequently appear are Drifit Milano and Drifit Speedy. These aren't global industry standards — they're trade names used by local suppliers to differentiate character within the drifit polyester category.

In general terms:
Drifit Milano tends to have a slightly tighter weave and smoother surface. The result reads as more "premium" visually and is more comfortable for light-to-moderate activity. Well-suited for casual jerseys, sport polo shirts, or activewear that's also worn outside sporting contexts.
Drifit Speedy tends to have a lighter structure and better air circulation — prioritizing performance in active conditions. Well-suited for competition jerseys, running apparel, or high-intensity activities that generate significant sweat.
Important note: the names "Milano" and "Speedy" can mean different things across different suppliers. Always request a sample and compare directly before committing to a large order.
What Actually Makes One Drifit Better Than Another

Not the name. Not the price. These are the four factors that genuinely determine drifit fabric quality:
Moisture-wicking effectiveness Good drifit fabric draws sweat from the inner surface (skin contact) to the outer surface quickly. Simple test: drop a small amount of water on the fabric surface. Quality drifit will spread outward rapidly — it won't pool or sit on the surface.
Breathability Good air circulation helps body heat escape. Fabric that's too tightly woven can be moisture-wicking but still feel hot because air can't move in and out effectively.
Color retention after washing Sportswear gets washed frequently — sometimes daily. Quality drifit maintains its color even after dozens of wash cycles. This also depends on the dyeing and finishing process at the mill level.
Dimensional stability A jersey that stretches out after a few wears looks untidy and feels off. Quality drifit maintains its shape and size through repeated washing and wearing.
Production Considerations: Drifit Is More Demanding Than Cotton

If you're used to producing cotton t-shirts and moving into drifit jerseys for the first time, there are a few technical things to prepare for:
Different sewing machine needles. Synthetic fabric requires specific needles (typically ballpoint or stretch needles) to prevent skipped stitches or fiber damage.
The right thread. Polyester thread is better suited for sewing drifit fabric than cotton thread — it's more elastic and holds up better under stretch.
Different stitch settings. Stitching for stretch fabric needs some built-in elasticity — standard straight stitch can break when the fabric is pulled. Zigzag or stretch stitch techniques are safer.
Sublimation vs conventional printing. Drifit PE is the best substrate for sublimation printing — colors are sharper, no ink sitting on the surface that can crack over time. But sublimation is only effective on white or very light-colored fabric. For dark-colored fabric, conventional printing (rubber or plastisol) can be used, but results won't be as optimal as on cotton.
